July 4 is a wonderful day across the entire United States, as a birthday celebration should be, but here in Kennebunkport and Goose Rocks Beach, we celebrate each Fourth with a flourish! As most of you know, we start the Fourth off with a wonderful 5K run, with close to 1000 runners, walkers, strollers of all ages. This year, Save-Our-Beaches proudly sponsors this race, to share with the community that we value and support the things we all hold dear. Last year, in a tough corporate environment, there was no Corporate major sponsor, and this year we are proud to fill that void!
Then, as you know, it is off to the kids’ bike parade, with colorful bikes and trikes and fire engines and more all adorned with ribbons and sparkles, and the joy of all those involved is apparent. So far no one has claimed ownership of King’s Highway, so apparently we are all clear to walk the parade route free and clear!
Normally, the day’s fun ends with the Carnival setup at the Community House, with hot dogs, cotton candy, booths and drinks all set up for kids of all ages. But wait, there’s more!
This year, please join Goose Rocks Dairy Ice Cream and Brandy’s On The Rocks as they proudlypresent a concert to celebrate our independence and the efforts of Save-Our-Beaches to maintain public access and recreational use of ALL of Goose Rocks Beach, with R&B singers from Boston, Barrence Whitfield and the Savages!
So if you don’t want the public sitting on the beach in front of your house, even though it’s been a wonderful place enjoyed for over 100 Fourth of Julys, you might not want to attend the concert because we’ll all be talking about how much we love the beach and the way we celebrate on the beach, as well as off the beach. Save-Our-Beaches will have tables with hats, tee shirts, coffee mugs, buttons and brochures, and will happily accept donations for the long term fight against privitization of beaches in Maine.
We’ll catch you up on the latest, enjoy the music with you, eat some ice cream, eat some food, and then have time to make the fireworks of your choice! Meet us there at 5 PM, and there is no charge for the music, so please come join us.
Please pass this link on to your friends and we’ll see you there!
