Save-Our-Beaches has a very important announcement to share with all those that have followed the lawsuit filed by roughly 25 individuals late last fall. It has been the position of many of us that not all the home owners were aware of what some of the leaders of that lawsuit were publishing and advocating. Mr. Robert Eisenberg was one of the original 25, who shared with our team personally that what he was told were reasons to become involved have not held up as the Town of Kennebunkport and others have tried to offer ways to settle this other than through a costly lawsuit. Mr. Eisenberg dropped out of the suit late last month, and has now agreed that we may share his letter to the attorney representing the beachfront owners that have sued the Town; the suit that threatens our traditional community support for one another. Here is his letter verbatim:
To: Pete Thaxter 4/20/2010
To confirm our verbal conversations on 4/19 and 4/20 I ask that my name be withdrawn from the GRB Lawsuit client list. I can no longer support the effort as I feel the process and lack of communications to all GRB residents regarding your position has caused undue anger and volatility amongst the community. In addition I feel I was misinformed as to the true intentions of this initiative as I was told that this endeavor had nothing to do with attempting to privatize the beach. I do not support any initiative that prevents or inhibits the ability of any GRB resident to access the beach. It is clear to me after yesterdays meetings that privatization is front and center with your clients.
I am confident that this issue can be resolved without court action and I will work towards that end. For our family the priority is relationships with our friends and community and insuring that things remain the way they have always been at GRB for the last 100+ years. I ask that in your absence over the next two weeks that you assign a representative of your firm to expedite the removal of our name from the client list.
Please confirm your receipt of this letter.
Sincerely,
Robert Eisenberg
Update 5/27/10 Mr. Mark Paley and his family are dropping out of the suit as well, effective immediately, and regret their involvement, as the sense of community and serenity at this beach is crucial to them. They never intended to divide the community, and want all of you to know that the beach is a place for all to enjoy, and they want all of you to know that they want no part of this suit going forward. My conversations with Mark were long and heartfelt, and this is a man that has thought long and hard on this issue and is very upset that he allowed himself to become part of something that did not turn out to have merit, or a thought for this community and it’s visitors.

I hope Mr. Eisenberg will share his letter with the local papers before town meeting!
We cannot thank you enough , from the Stafford family at 244 Kings Highway…
Thank you Mr. Eisenberg. We hope that other beachfront owners partaking in the lawsuit also come to understand the true intention is to privatize. We have thought from the start that this lawsuit was led by only 3-4 beachfront owners using a divisive campaign of fear and outright misinformation. We are so happy that your family has chosen to preserve the spirit and community that is uniquiely Gooserocks Beach! You’re the best!
I say bravo Mr. Eisenberg and thank you !
I couldn’t disagree more with the current movement to restrict access to Goose Rocks Beach. The current access plan is not broken and should not be modified. Chances are the people looking to restrict access are being advised to do so by someone who only cares about monetary compensation.
Goose Rocks Beach should not become Broad Beach East (Malibu). Anyone who has been to Broad Beach in Malibu will know exactly what I am talking about. What’s next? Will visitors or land owners without deeded access be relegated to just the public access ways?
Goose Rocks Beach is all about family and not just about families who own property along the beach. My family has owned land at Goose Rocks Beach for at least 6 generations. My grandfather told me many years ago that people who care only for money will try to change the beach. I say we should organize, raise money and refuse/resist these unjust efforts.
I find the argument that beach front owners actually own down to the low water mark to be laughable. Should they pay back taxes on that extra land? Overall I am saddened that one little kid will not get the chance to make the same kind of memories that I made or that I will continue to make with my kids. This effort is pathetic, misdirected and sad.
I grew up on Goose Rocks Beach from the late 50′s on. There were 5-6 families that got together with all of us kids and spent every day at the beach. My parents bought land in the 60′s and built two cottages. We would live in one of them in the fall, winter and spring when the beach was very quiet. My parents rented to one certain family in the summer, for 23 yrs before they couldn’t take care of them anymore. We have family living in ours and wouldn’t want to see them NOT be able to access the beach with their kids. I want them to experience the same thing I did growing up. The salt air, the sea breeze and all the great shells and rocks they find there. What an adventure for children, AND adults, something new and exciting every single day!
