Interview with a Beach Dog!

It is not just grandparents and parents that feel the threat of not being able to enjoy Goose Rocks Beach as they have for years–this interview with a Golden Retriever that has enjoyed the beach for 35 dog years is pretty revealing!  If you have any questions for Kaysea, please comment at the end of the story, and we’ll get her take!

Interviewer:  So, Kaysea, how long have you been running this beach?

Kaysea:  Well, I came down here when my folks adopted me.  The tennis ball was about my size, but I showed it who was boss anyway.  I’ve been running, digging and swimming for five of your years now, 35 of mine, and I consider this the best place on the planet!

Interviewer:  Tell us about your favorite things.

Kaysea:  Well, at first I liked eating seaweed.  Don’t know why, just did.  Grew out of that.  Then I had to teach my folks some tricks.  I come down, dig a hole, they bury the ball.  I dig it out, and then we’re off.  Throw me the ball, sand, water, doesn’t matter.  I’ll catch it on the fly, on the bounce, or I’ll swim out to it.  I’m not a frisbee dog, strictly ball.  Nothing wrong with Frisbee, my main guy throws that alot, but it’s all about catching the ball on the bounce.

Interviewer:   Very nice.  What is one of your best moments on the  beach, Kaysea?

Kaysea:  Have to be when I met Tillie, when I was a puppy.  The former First Lady and GB were walking ahead of the Secret Service, and I saw Tillie.  Headed right up to her, she was Famous!!!  She was sweet, reminded me of Grandma, and you could smell she had been some great places!  I remembered my manners, sat, and shook hands with the First Lady.  Have to say that was a big moment–Tillie is very well known in my circles.

Interviewer:   Uh, you know there is a little controversy brewing at the beach now, right?  You could lose your walking privileges on that beach, if the 23 homeowners win the lawsuit against the town.   You could still swim down the beach, but you’d have to ask permission to come ashore, unless you are considered a vessel, as you are allowed to navigate.  We’ll run that by legal.

Kaysea:  Yes, I know, and some of those people have dogs!  And they have kids and grandkids!   Now they’re messing with the grandaughter, Eliza, and the rest of my family, and lots of others!   Don’t know how you can get up every morning, see a gorgeous sunrise, watch the sunset, see the moon rise, lightening flash on the ocean, all the good stuff, and still be willing to set something in motion that could stop others, like me, from enjoying the beach?  Go figure.  What, I’m supposed to go up and ask permission?  What if those people win–can they put up fences?  This whole thing makes my fur stand up.

Interviewer:  I understand you’re willing to take questions from the public?

Kaysea:  Sure, kids especially!  If you’ll read the questions submitted as comments, I’ll answer as quickly as I can.  I tried typing once, but all I could do was a bunch of xs and ws.  That’s ok, my folks can’t catch a ball with their mouth, so personally I think I’m much more talented.

Interviewer:  Well thanks, Kaysea, for a nice chat!  Anything you want to say before the Christmas Holiday?

Kaysea:  I want to wish everyone, even the 23 folks paying good money to a lawyer to do a hurtful thing, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  Give a gift to someone you don’t know, a toy or a contribution, and get your pet a really nice treat.  This weekend, like all weekends I get a chance, you’ll see me, flying like the wind, making great catches look easy.  I’ll be hanging around with some folks that care enough to fight this lawsuit, and the contributions have really been coming in–I gave a bone myself.  Takes some money to fight this thing, but we all have to do what we can to keep a way of life.  Looking forward to questions, kids!  A special shout out to Eliza, as we talk on the phone pretty regularly.   PS– If any cats feel like writing in some mean stuff, forget about it–we monitor these comments and only the good stuff gets through!  Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all from Kaysea the Wonder Dog!

Cleo the lab and Goldie, the three legged Golden of GRB, are wagging heartily in agreement. We were out playing ball in the snow today!

Question-HOW did you outgrow seaweed? I would love to teach our boy that trick!!

Interpreting for my BlueTick Coon Hound, Ernie.

Way to go!! It seems that some humans have forgotten what a community really is! The beach should be for everyone to enjoy!
It’s the sense of old time community that makes GRB and K’port such a wonderful place. I hope we don’t loose that because of a few misguided humans.
p.s. has anyone checked to see if they’ve had their shots? Sounds a bit like distemper to me ;-)

    woof woof,
    Ernie

Chloe the cockapoo is crazy about the beach too and like Kaysea she simply doesn’t understand why a few people are making things such a mess. It’s sad that a small handful of people seem unconcerned that they will forever alter the sense of community at GRB simply because they want to exercise “property rights” that would prevent others from enjoying all that the beach has offered for generations. When you look at the names of those suing the town, even sadder to realize that they chose to jeopardize their friendships of many years in exchange for power and control over the beach.
