VOTE YES June 12!

We’re down to crunch time!  A nice couple on the beach this morning, visiting from Iowa, asked me what all the signs were about.  Trying not to take their entire vacation to explain the actions of a few anti-community homeowners, I just shared that the Town of Kennebunkport had been sued, and was trying to defend a way of life that is essential to not only our community, but all of Maine.

All registered Kennebunkport voters, show up on Saturday morning, June 12, at the Consolidated School, and if you plan on parking, get there well before the 9 AM start!

OK, critical part here–stay for the whole meeting!  While I believe we will show up in overwhelming numbers, parliamentary moves can crush us if we show up in numbers but leave before the meeting is closed.   If you love the beach, stay for the whole meeting!  We can enable the Town to keep up the fight, and with the 170 folks now privately in the suit, we can win this thing outright for our kids and grandkids.

You need to plan on staying from 9 to noon or so.  There may be as few as three votes around this issue, there may be more.   We vote YES on the $250,000 budget, which will average less than $60 on the average home in Kennebunkport in increased annual taxes.  Then we vote to allow an exception to a State of Maine guideline for municipal spending, and then we may have a final vote.  However, there may be other votes–and oh by the way, all five of our Selectmen have voted unanimously in favor of this budget item!

We suggest that comments, if any, be very brief.  We all know the issues by now, people already have a horse in this race.  You can vote for enjoyment of a wonderful natural resourse by supporting the Town in this, or vote for privitization, signs everywhere, and the threat that these unfriendly homeowners can make you and your family move off of their property, because they don’t like the color of your towel.

We thank all of you with signs in your yards–hang on to the posts, as we’ll have some nice surprises this summer!

This is it, folks.   We attended meetings this winter, heard experts reduce the reasons you hear from the homeowners as smoke screen, or as Bob Eisenberg, formerly one of those homeowners told me, it is clear that this is totally about privatization by the few for their own satisfaction, not about any threat to our way of life.

Watch for a full page ad in this Thursday’s editions.   Last week their side had a lame ad with serious exaggerated scare tactics–we answer all of them in our ad, but with real facts.

Please show up if you are a registered voter.  Please bring a neighbor.  We need to beat this mean spirited attempt to divide the community.  You’ve all seen “It’s a Wonderful Life”–if you don’t want Goose Rocks Beach to turn into Pottersville, or Almederton, then you must vote and stay for all three hours.

There are a few times for all of us to make a difference, and this is one.   Thank you for your support all winter, and let’s show these folks what a strong and resolute community can do in the face of a threat by selfish people that can’t stand the sight of peopls sitting on a beach towel in front of their houses.

Last thing–for those of you that check out Facebook–please look up save-0ur-beaches.org, and read Monica Piombino’s scary story of a terribly rude homeowner, Vandervoorn, who will give you a glimpse of life at any beach in Maine if these people win the suit.  Monica’s own words are more eloquent than I can capture, so click here:  http://www.facebook.com/pages/Save-Our-Beachesorg/175399119757

Babysitting availabe in rec building from 8:30 am to end of meeting.  3 college students providing babysitting (2 gals and 1 guy – to cover the boy/girl ratio).

Don’t let Barbara Rencurrel, Jack Fleming and Bob Almeder be the Goose Rocks equivalent of mean Mr. Potter.  Let’s help George fight!
