What a fun night!

Hats off to the Kennebunkport community!  You all turned out in such numbers we swamped two parking lots, and were up and down Route 9!  Although people came and went, our best guess is 250 people turned out Wednesday night, May 26, for a very fun night of music, hot dogs and hamburgers, and ice cream!

First, our thanks to all of you that came to get signs to Vote Yes on June 12, more on other web pages on this site about that vote.  Next, a big shout out to Nick and Mary Costello at Goose Rocks Dairy, and Chris and Brandy over at Brandy’s on the Rocks!  They were awesome, dishing out ice cream with sundae fixings, or cooking burgers, dogs, and even scallops wrapped in bacon if you were in line for the two minutes it took to gobble those things up!

Another warm round of thanks to the Mousam River Rats, who played the whole two hours that we rallied around the Kennebunkport Appreciation Night!  Kids were dancing, adults talking, buying Save-Our-Beaches hats and tee shirts to wear at the June 12 vote!

Finally, a thank you to all the Save-Our-Beaches volunteers, who have invested time, money and great input into an organization that now boasts over 1400 members, with another 1000 on our sister site on Facebook (Thanks Jeff!).

For those of you who were there in spirit, let me describe the evening.  It was unusually warm for May here at the beach, just perfect though with a nice breeze (and plenty of  ice cream)!  The sky was  a gorgeous blue, long twilight shadows made the night comfortable, and people sat and listened to the Mousam River Rats or mingled.  The parking lots were full, with people walking back to their cars with their Vote Yes yard signs in tow!

This morning on the way to work in Portland I counted six signs, tonight when I drove home there were 14 on my way!  I honk when I pass so thanks to all of you!

This was so heart warming to see.  We did not turn this into a political event, although my favorite quote of the evening was “Mic, we never, ever put political signs in our yard for anyone, or anything, but we will have this sign in our yard tomorrow!”

The big news and a thank you to Mark Paley and his family came as I announced that Mark asked me to let everyone know he and his family were very happy to be dropping out of the suit, and very sad that they were mislead into getting into the suit.  Mark took full responsibility, but the truth is that the reasons many were given for joining the suit have been proven to be totally bogus, and Mark will share his story this summer if he meets you on the beach!

Finally, we are over the 150 mark on individuals joing the suit, and that will be announced very shortly, in fact, must be before the June 4 deadline.  If you do not know about this suit and reasons to join, read a story on this site about it, but time is running out!

While the reasons we gather as a group are unfortunate, the fun and enjoyment of so many people in such an ideal setting will stay in my heart forever.  Thanks again to all of you, our business friend, musicians, and volunteers for this event.  You stand for something that is important and necessary–the sense of community that was shown was the reason that Kennebunkport and it’s beaches are such a treasure.  Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend and summer!

I have not been able to make the last meeting and not pick up a sign. I am at 70 Mills Rd. so if someone wants to put a sign on my property that is ok by me.
My wife and I are property owners but can’t vote.

    Keep up the good work
